SWIFT Provides Help for Middle School Students Facing Challenges at School
Is your middle schooler having a hard time at school? This might look like difficulty paying attention, experiencing bullying, worrying, difficulty sleeping, challenges with friendships, failing grades, or not completing homework.

Less Stress, More School Success!
SWIFT Parent Coaches support families with effective home-school communication, school advocacy, and routines at home.
SWIFT Skills Coaches help middle school students build skills to manage emotions, complete assignments, and foster healthy friendships.
SWIFT Coordinators have backgrounds in Special Education and work with teachers and families for students’ school success.

SWIFT Uses Evidence-Based Approaches
The SWIFT Team works with families in home, school, and community settings. The team is warm and engaging. We focus on identifying your goals and tailor the program to fit your family’s needs.
Students meets weekly with a youth Skills Coach to practice skills (e.g., managing emotions, following classroom expectations, study skills, friendship skills). Skills Coaches typically meet with students at school and during the summer, sessions take place in community settings. Youth in SWIFT will improve/increase:
- Focus and attention
- Emotion regulation
- Social skills/Friendship skills
- Confidence and self-advocacy
- Organizing schoolwork
- Problem solving skills
- Conflict management skills
Parents meet weekly with a Parent Coach to address the student’s home- and school-related needs. Parents will receive:
- 1:1 parent support related to routines, clear expectations, limit setting, and stress management
- Support advocating with the school (e.g., IEP/504 meetings)
Teachers are an important part of a student’s SWIFT team. The Program Supervisor talks with the student’s teacher weekly to coordinate interventions and support across home and school settings. Teachers will receive:
- 1:1 teacher support related to home-school communication and collaboration, behavior management, and identification of student strengths and needs

There are no out of pocket costs for SWIFT services. Costs are covered either through Medicaid billing or through grants and contracts.
SWIFT specializes in treating middle school students with mood and most types of anxiety disorders. Our program is not able to serve youth with specific conditions such as Eating Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or Psychosis. Further, our programs is not able to provide psychoeducational evaluations or neurodevelopmental evaluations for conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.
SWIFT does not provide medication services. However, counselors can work with students and families to access those services in the community.
